1) What if I just can't keep up?

It's not about keeping up, it's about pushing yourself. During this course, you should not compare yourself to your buddy or anyone else in the class. The course will be designed to push the most advanced individual in the class, so that means that at some point, no one will be able to 'keep up.' You will be shown how to take breaks from the training without losing the benefit of the exercise, so if you need a break, take it.

2) What if I have to miss a class?

Consistency is the real key to success when it comes to exercise. You should try to attend each and every class, but we realize that at some time something trivial like work, your anniversary, or the final episode of House might interfere with your attendance. If you absolutely must miss class, print out one of the portable workouts -- even if you miss class, don't miss your workout!

3) Do I have to run? Do I have to swim?

Yep. But you don't have to run or swim well. Go at your own pace, be safe, and always inform the instructor if you're uncomfortable with swimming or running. In the past, we've had people who were unable to run at all, and we can work around that.

4) What if I can't do all of the exercises?

There are variations to every exercise used in this course - if a particular exercise gives you trouble, just ask the instructor to show you the alternate exercises.

5) Is the course safe?

Yes, BUT…most of the exercises in Basic Training are derived from military PT, and some of them can be pretty strenuous or even potentially injurious. However, many of our exercises have been modified so that we mortals can safely perform them without injury. Again, if you have trouble with any of the exercises, please notify the instructor immediately.

6) When I complete this course, will I be a SEAL?

OK, no, not even close. However, if you're considering a career in the Teams, this is a good way to start your physical preparation (but if you really did ask that question, they probably don't want you). To even be considered for BUD/S, you must meet the following requirements:

· Must be male
· Must pass a diving physical exam
· Eyesight cannot be worse the 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other, and must be correctable to 20/20 with no color blindness.
· Minimum ASVAB score: VE+AR=104, MC=50
· Must be 28 years old of less.
· Must pass the physical screening test:
- 500 yard swim using breast and/or side stroke in 12:30
- 10 minute rest
- Minimum of 42 pushups in 2 minutes
- 2 minute rest
- Minimum of 50 situps in 2 minutes
- 2 minute rest
- At least 8 perfect dead hang pull-ups
- Ten minute rest
- Run 1.5 miles wearing boots and pants in 11:30
